Grand Rising seems to be the new and improved version of Good Morning! As with any changes, it has taken me a minute and I am still processing when someone says to me “Grand Rising” as opposed to “Good Morning.” But you know what? As I started to think about it, I realized, each day that we wake up, is a grand rising! How many of you know those people who wake up mad? They are just mad! Who does that? They have been asleep all night and they wake up with a frown on their face, mad! The fact that we wake up in the morning, that in itself, is a blessing. You don’t think so? Ask the people who did not wake up!
Each day we have is an opportunity to do something different, something great, something we have always dreamed of doing. I know I have had this conversation before, but we must keep remembering just how fortunate we are which is hard to do amid a pandemic season and people fighting, hurting each other and just plain mad! I started challenging myself to list all the things I am grateful for each day. When I feel myself focusing on the negative, I start listing all the positive. I can breathe, I can see, I can taste, I can smell, I can walk, talk, dance, sing, drive…. I can go on and on. We take for granted so many blessings. Why is it that we don’t’ appreciate them until they are gone? Let us start to change that and appreciate every teeny, tiny, attribute, ability, possession, etc!
Mindfulness can be a powerful tool. It’s the practice of focusing on one thing and every aspect of that one thing. For example, you are listening to the birds chirping, singing. How many are chirping? Are they high pitched? Low pitched? Is there a rhythm to their communication? Close your eyes and listen to the ocean (assuming you are near one). The waves crashing, the calmness, the seagulls over head or perhaps the whales talking to each other! The wind blowing. When we block out the noise and listen to the stillness of the earth, there is something so spiritual about that. Something so peaceful.
Find those quiet moments throughout your day to just steal away and find a moment of peace. Reflect on your Grand Rising and all the things for which you are grateful. Some days that may be difficult because it may be a day where everything seems to go wrong. But if you dig deep and search your soul, even on those horrible days, you will find something for which you are grateful. When you get home from a rough day at work, that greeting at the door that you get from your four-legged family member, gratitude! Grand Rising and look forward to those special moments each day!
