Who Says?

Once upon a time there was a rather seasoned woman who loved to wear “Chuck Taylor” high tops. She wore them with jeans, she wore them with dresses, she wore them with shorts, she loved to wear them. One day, she was told that women her age shouldn’t or can’t (don’t remember which it was) wear sneakers like that! Who says you can’t wear sneakers in your winter season of life!? What kind of foolery is that? Do you find yourself trying to break out of a box society or someone has symbolically put you in? Each of us may have experienced this on some level.

Sneakers are so much fun! They come in all colors and styles now. Some even have a little bling to them! Who would have thought, back in the 60’s or 70’s when you had to wear sneakers for PE, that those same shoes would be such a fashion statement today? They are! They can be so fashionably fun and sassy with an evening dress (after 5). I’ve seen brides walk down the isle with a pair of beautiful sneakers to match their wedding gown. You can’t go wrong with sneakers and jeans. I mean that should be a staple in every woman’s closet. They are fun with a sassy skirt and top, maybe a little jacket thrown over it all. Or how about a long vintage dress or skirt with a nice hat to top off the look (no pun intended)? Now, the style of the sneaker matters and just like matching a pair of shoes with a nice outfit, sneakers deserve the same level of consideration when selecting a pair for an evening out.

Fashionably fun and free describes the feel of a great outfit with a pair of cute sneakers. Evidently, I’m not the only one that thinks this. Have you seen the price of a pair of high tops lately? The price is up there with a solid pretty pump! Our eye for fashion and style holds no limits and neither should it when it comes to what we put on our feet! As we age, comfort outranks cuteness. You remember those days you wore those stiletto shoes that had your feet screaming but were cute as all get out! Well, I don’t think that will ever completely go out of style, but high heel shoes do have their limit! Some are 2-hour high heels, some are 30-minute-high heels. Some are “I’m just going to stand here and look cute, but I can’t walk in these things” high heels. Ahh, the beauty of the sneaker, there is no limit! Cute, sassy, sexy, stylish all at the same time and you don’t have to soak your feet when you get home? Where are my Chuck Taylors?
